Casey Brefka is a contemporary jazz trumpet player, composer, arranger, and teacher based in Nashville, TN. A Berklee College of Music graduate and Toshiko Akiyoshi Award recipient, he leads the Music City Big Band, an 18-piece ensemble featuring Nashville's finest jazz musicians. Casey has performed with McCoy Tyner, Maria Schneider, and Postmodern Jukebox, and holds a Master's from New England Conservatory. He is an executive board member of AFM Local 257.
Full Bio
Casey Brefka — originally from Hudson, OH; now residing in Nashville, TN — is a contemporary jazz trumpet player, composer, arranger, and teacher. He currently plays trumpet for the Chris Weaver Band, Crash Course VGM Fusion Band, The Accords, and is the musical director and front man for the Music City Big Band, an 18-piece big band in Nashville playing contemporary jazz music.
Casey earned a full scholarship to Berklee College of Music, graduating in 2008 with a degree in Jazz Composition and the Toshiko Akiyoshi Award. He earned his Master's from New England Conservatory in 2012 and served on Berklee's faculty. He has performed with McCoy Tyner, Maria Schneider, Phil Wilson, Greg Hopkins, Omar Thomas, and Postmodern Jukebox.
Music City Big Band was born in spring of 2017. Casey freelances regularly (trumpet, trombone, arranger) and is an executive board member of the American Federation of Musicians Local 257.
